Summary: Getting an ATA Carnet stamped in Basel: Swiss customs at EuroAirport (daily 05:00–24:00, even for new carnets), the French customs bureau, and the around-the-clock motorway crossings Basel/Weil am Rhein and Basel/St-Louis.

# ATA Carnet in Basel

Basel is Switzerland's most carnet-friendly corner. The EuroAirport customs office handles carnets, **including brand-new ones**, every day from 05:00 to midnight, and the two motorway crossings into Germany and France stamp opened carnets around the clock. The first digital eATA transaction in the world was processed at Basel/Weil am Rhein on 1 June 2026.

## EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg

One airport, two customs administrations: EuroAirport stands on French soil but contains a **Swiss customs sector** under a 1949 treaty. Landside, the terminal splits into a Swiss sector and a French sector. The rule of thumb for a Swiss-issued carnet:

- **Flying in/out via the Swiss sector:** Swiss customs handles everything. This is the normal case for Swiss companies.
- **Taking the goods landside into France** (or using the French sector): that's an entry into the EU. The French bureau processes the EU import/transit, and Swiss customs notes your exit. The exact hand-off isn't documented publicly, so call both offices ahead.
- **Arrivals:** after baggage reclaim there are two exits, one through Swiss customs and one through French customs. Take the one whose stamp you need.
